They put a camera WHERE?!?!

So I had my 'procedure' done last week at the special doc's place.
They have such a nice waiting room:

They kept me most of the day and gave me some stuff to make me sleep.  When I woke up, I was in a different place and, um, both ends of me were sore.
I was still pretty sleepy:

Then I heard them tell mom and dad that they put a CAMERA down my throat and, get this....UP MY BUTT!!!!!

They did something called a BIOPSY and we'll get those results in a few days.
The special doc said she saw things in me (through the camera!) that makes her think I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Mom's not too thrilled with the treatment plan, which includes 20mg prednisone twice a day for who knows how long.  So mom's looking at other options, including a holistic vet (Darwin's ), herbal treatments, and raw food diet.
If anyone has any suggestions/recommendations, mom would be thrilled to get some help on this!!!

p.s.:  despite the pictures, I'm feeling much better and am practically back to 100%

  1. I sure hope those were TWO DIFFERENT cameras!

Mom would definitely follow up with the holistic vet. IBD often responds very well to RAW or BARF concepts, as it does to home cooked foods. There is a list a mile long of things to avoid, so your best bet would be to see if there is a Canine Nutritionist in your area. A consultation runs about $100 to $200 but it's money VERY WELL SPENT. What it costs you to have a meal plan developed by a nutritionist will save you TONS in vet bills later. There is also an AMAZING yahoo group IBD Dogs that can help you with TONS of info.

BTW, Mom is transporting Cody - A R.R. mix on Sunday - they say he is FURRY handsome and sweet but shy!

  4. So sorry to hear about the possible IBD diagnosis. I think your instinct to go the holistic route is a good one. Last year, Tucker was diagnosed with a low thyroid at his yearly checkup, and my western med vet wanted to put him on Soloxine, but I didn't like what I read about the possible side effects, so we went the holistic route and he has responded beautifully. I also think the raw diet idea is a very good one. I know it's helped a lot of cats with IBD, so I imagine it would be the same for dogs.

We'll be crossing paws for you.

  7. Ruh Roh! Mom just got back from vacation & is catching up on all the bloggies she reads. So sorry to hear about your potential diagnosis!

Mom doesn't have any other advice to give, you've gotten some good ones...the yahoo IBD group, raw diet. Slippery Elm might be something that can help as well. I sure hope you feel better soon!
