The Dragon Went on Vacation

So, the snowpacolypse continued. Mom was keeping me company during one of our snow days, the dragon just picked up and left. Guess he wanted to go somewhere warmer with no snow and ice. Can't say I blamed him. But, dang. I really missed him. Mom made me wear my fleece all day and sleep with two blankets on.

It was so chilly that I even wore my blankie when I ate my lunch!

The cold, ice, rain, snow, and wind continued and it looked really ominous out.

Luckily, the dragon only went on a short vacation. He was back the next night and we were all cheering. Not that he doesn't deserve a vacation, but the last time he went (2006), he was gone for 10 days!!!!

My auntie's dragon went on a 6-day vacation this year. You'd think they'd plan it during the summer!!!

Anyway, after the snow, ice, rain, and wind stopped, it was time to do some clean up.

So we did a little shopping around for a chain saw.

There were only like 2 left in town, so we weren't too picky.

Then mom and dad did lots of noisy work and had big piles of tree parts all around the yard.

They got most of the rest of it done yesterday, but its been a few days of hard work to get things cleaned up.

I let her get a day of rest before making her help me get caught up on the blog.

Hope you're all having a warm, safe winter and I hope your dragons wait 'til July to vacation!!

Catch up from Snowpocalypse 2012

So, we've finally dug out and cleaned up from our crazy snow storm. You remember that last picture from 1.15.12, Our Furrst Snow? Well, it just kept snowing, and snowing.

I played in the snow a little bit, but mostly mom kept me entertained in the warm house:

It was really coming down outside.

This is what it looked like during our walk. We rarely get this much snow around here.

Mom measured the snow at one point, but we probably got another inch after this.

One of our big trees out front lost some of his arms. Poor guy. The snow was just super heavy.

Then, it started raining, which, of course, turned to ice. You can see the ice on our window.

Needless to say, mom stayed home from work. Mom's thing is that this happens so rarely around here that people don't know how to drive in it. Plus they don't clear the streets.

So she decided to be safe and spend over a week at home with me.

The poor trees were all bendy.

Mom was really worried about our neighbor's tree falling on our house. Check out all the icicles off our roof!

We played a little out in the snow. Mom threw me a few snow balls.

You can see here when it started raining, ending up with about an inch of ice on top of the 7 inches of snow.

Our bamboo wasn't too happy, but mom thought it looked pretty covered in ice.

Our pond almost totally froze over!

So the cold and snow and freezing rain continued for days.

Sand Zoomies!!

During our walk the other day, me and Memphis ran across this volleyball court (closed for the season), so we thought it the perfect spot for some zoomies.

And we all know how much sand gives me the zoomies!

Whew! That pooped me out!

Our Furrst Snow!

This morning we woke up to a little cold, white stuff on the ground. I was pretty excited since I actually like this stuff, MUCH more than the drippy wet stuff.

Maybe, if I'm lucky, we'll get more of this tomorrow and get to go for another romp in it!

I got a grrrrreat surrrrprrrrise on New Years' Eve when Memphis, my bestest bud ever, showed up at my house!!!

We were totally pooped out, so Memphis crashed on one of my beds and I crashed on the other.

Truth is, I've been wanting to do it, but she's been too lazy. And I need her help, of course, cuz I'm all thumbs with the keyboard.

A (COLD!!!!) Walk in the Woods

The other weekend, I met up with Memphis for our usual weekend walk. We tried another new place, called Soos Creek Trail.

Can you see how COLD it was? The grass was even crunchy!!

This is one time when I wished mom would've made me wear one of my gazillion coats!

It also had a horsie trail, so you know what that meant!?!

Horsie Apples...yummy!

Despite it being FREEZING out, the sky was clear and sunny and the colors were amazing.

Pictures just don't capture the beauty.

We went out zombie hunting today. We're part of the:

Drat. Just some old poo. No luck finding zombies today.

My dad got a zombie the other night, so maybe we'll have better luck tonight. For some reason, all these little vampires and such chose tonight to come around and beg for food. But,until the doorbell rings again, I'm enjoying this special raw buffalo treat:

A Series of Unfortunate Events

This morning, me and Memphis' walking adventure took us to Lake Fenwick Park.

It had a nice, wooded trail that took us down some serious stairs.

Those stairs were a piece of cake! No Problem-O. At the bottom was a little open area perfect for a little wrestling.

C'mon mom!!! Can I go play NOW?!?!

We ended up going to the end of the trail and having to turn back, which meant having to go UP ALL THOSE STAIRS!! Yeowsers!

We kept going and came across the actual lake. The colors of the trees and the reflection on the lake were beautiful and mom wished she brought her real camera, but the iphone does an ok job.

We came to a pretty long dock/bridge. Let me just say that Memphis REALLY likes the water. We're walking along the dock....then SPLOOSH! Memphis stepped off the dock and did like a nose dive into the water. All I saw was his tummy and feet sticking up. I'm thinking he thought it was a lot more shallow than it was, and when his front feet didn't hit the bottom, he just flipped head over tails. Luckily, since he likes the water, he didn't panic and was able to get back on the dock. Didn't phase him at all.

So we got back to walking, and mom was yaking away, then all of a sudden...

BOOM!...then silence. Mom? Mom? I turned around and she was sitting on her butt. She had slipped on some of the slick wood on this long dock bridge. "Smooth moove, Mom!"

Needless to say she was okay, so we got back to walking and...BIFF! Mom wipes out again, this time tripping on a tree root. How embarassing! My Mom, the picture of grace and coordination!

We decide it's definitely time to go before anything else happens.

So, our review of Fenwick Lake Park is that it's probably a much safer place to take mom when it's DRY. Here in the PNW, that means we might go back in...oh....about 8 months!

Flashback (Freaky) Friday!!!!!!!

You remember back in 2009 when something 'possessed' mom and she thought this hat would look cute on me? She obviously caught me sleeping. I would never allow my picture taken like this!

The weirdness in '09 wasn't restricted to just me. She even got Jake (who looks less than thrilled...although notice he's in MY bed)!

OMG!!!! It happened again this year! She was possessed AGAIN!!!!

Except the hat's a little smaller now (and my snout is a lot longer)

Since Jake is no longer with us (we all still miss him), the torture was taken out on Harmon....

....and Millie. (although she looks good in it!)

She was a Halloween cat. Mom and dad rescued her just after Halloween in 2004.

Okay....back to the MT camping adventure....
We got up EARLY in the morning to head up to Hyalite Canyon to try our luck (again) at fishing.

Yea! Mom caught a fish!

Mom was hoping to cook up some fish for lunch, but this was a cutthroat and they're native in MT.
As dad was getting the hook out of the fishie, it decided it liked mom's pink lure and took off with it.
Guess it wanted to look purty for all the other fishies!
Then, we went to where mom went to school and the building where she spent most of her time.

And we swung by this store called Dee-O-Gee in Bozeman and I got this special collar to wear on all my camping adventures:

Me and mom are up visiting my Pop-pop for a few days.

It was pretty darn chilly when I went out for my morning pee.

Then, I looked up and saw this:

Brrrrr!! This is no place for an African lion dog!!!! Maybe a polar bear dog!

Good thing my Pop-pop's got a dragon, too.

Ahhhh....there's something soothing about that warm dragon breath!

It puts me right to sleep! ZZZZzzzzzz.....

Me and Memphis decided to enjoy today's nice weather by taking our pawrents up to summit

Pinnacle Peak.

It was a LONG walk uphill. So we walked for a while...

...then we walked some more....whew!

We stopped to remember the Black Hawk crew who were killed in the crash at the Peak in 2006. You can read about that here.

We resumed our hike and finally got to the top. In the rare chance that you don't believe me, here's proof of the summit:

My Second 5k!!!!!!

I did my second 5k race yesterday. It was the Fremont Oktoberfest 5k.

You can see my post from last year's Oktoberfest 5k here.

This is a really good dog friendly race. There were more dogs this year.

Our time was 32:19.

That was more than 3 minutes faster than last year!!!

Course, I didn't stop for a poop break either and only had one 3-second pee stop.

Since it was 'Dogtoberfest', I got to take mom and dad into the beer tasting area.

The weather was nice during the run, but it started dripping later.

Me and dad got under this tent to keep dry.

I was really hoping that dude would drop that yummy smelling food item,

but no such luck.

It was a great time again and even better that I set a new PR!!!

Can't wait til my next race!

Toys for Rainy Daze!

With the rainy season fast approaching in the PNW (yeah, like it ever left), Mom has been on the look-out for toys to keep me busy indoors (since you all know how much I hate being dripped on!)

At first I was like, "What the heck is this thingy?"

Hmmmm... I smell treatz!!!

So I discovered that there were treatz hidden in these little cup thingies.

YUM!!!! (notice all the slobber on it)

OOOOOOoooo....

Last one....

Mmmm... very yummy!

Since I've played with treat dispensing toys before, this was relatively easy for me.

But, it was still fun and yummy, and mom said it kept me occupied for a few minutes.

So I give it 1.5 Thumbs up (on a scale of -2 to 2).

And it was definitely better than the muffin pan we were using last year!!!

Ruffin' It !! Day 7 - While the Hoomans are Away...

We got up early and headed out on some mystery adventure.

Then, we stopped at a place so that I could play all day instead of being stuck in the truck.

It was a nice place and I made some new Montana furrriends.

Mom and dad started the day by going fishing. Here's a great shot of dad fishing along the Madison River.

Mom used to fish here 25 years ago. She said she used to always catch trout.

Not so lucky this time. No nibbles. Mom said it's because the river was so swollen from recent flooding.

Sure, mom. If you say so....

After the morning fishing, they went to a place called the Lewis and Clark Caverns. That's the place where I wasn't allowed. Guess they thought I'd scare the bats or something.

After their day long adventure, they picked me up from my Montana play place

and we headed back to camp.

Dad was determined to catch something, so he tried his luck along the river right behind our camp site.

Oh boy, dad!!! What did you catch??

Well now, that's pretty impressive. He caught someone else's lost lure!!

Not everyone can do that!!

It was another exciting, tiring day.

We settled down for some ZZzzzzz's to get ready for tomorrow's action packed day.

Ruffin' It !! Day 6 (continued) - Mom's Old Stomping Grounds

Ok, back to camping stories.

Mom thinks she's being funny by pointing at the 'Bear Country' sign!

As you can see, I am not laughing!

Anyways, mom was excited to get into town. She lived in Bozeman for a while.

So we went into town and mom and dad had lunch at this place called the Pickle Barrel.

Mom said they used to have THE BEST sandwiches.

She said they're still just as good!

That's a HUGE sandwich! Hope some's for ME!!!

We drove around more so mom could see some of the stuff that was new, and some of the stuff that was the same. Then we headed back to our campsite so we could all relax.

Today was a busy day and our dogs were tired (really!)

We had to get some shut eye cuz tomorrow was going to be packed full of fun stuffs.

Birthday Visit Adventures

Just a little break from the camping posts while we're up visiting my Pop-pop for his birfday.

I always like visiting cuz he's got such a big place for me to watch for things (bears and such)....

...and such wide areas for pooping...

I found my spot in front of the dragon, even though it wasn't warm this time.

I wanted to buy this motorcycle for Pop-pop, but it didn't come with a side car for me!

We went for a nice walkie furrrst thing in the morning before leaving Grrrrreat Falls.

Ruffin' It ! Day 5 - Not Really Ruff !!

We hit the road early in the morning for Grrrrreat Falls.

It was another long ~~nap~~ drive there!

It was dinner time by the time we got there, so we dropped off the port-a-house in the parking lot of a bigger house and went to one of the eating places mom used to go when she lived here a long time ago...when dinosaurs still roamed.

She got a Fluffy taco. The phone camera doesn't take very good pictures, but she said it was good.
Kinda looks green, like my food!

Then we walked around this booteefull park called Giant Springs. The water was crystal clear there.

There were lots of nice, polite kids that asked to pet me,
which made me very happy, since I think kids are pretty ~~tasty~~ cute.

Mom forgot her real camera, so here's a nice picture of Giant Springs she got off the internet.

Then we drove by the house she grew up in when she was a wee pup...

...and some of her old schools (yawn!).

Hey, enuf reminiscing! It's getting late!!! Where's MY dinner!!!

So, we left and I thought we were going to set up the port-a-house so mom could make my dinner,

but we ended up going inside this big house with smaller houses in it.

Mom called it a hotel. It was my very furrrrst hotel stay.

Ahhhhh!!!! Finally!!!!

A full night's rest without dad kicking me in the head or mom stealing the covers!!!!

Ruffin' It ! Day 4 - Final Day at Big Arm

I'm on the tippy top of the highest peak in Montana:

Okay, so maybe I'm just on a rock at our campsite...

It still makes a good lookout spot.

...and someone needs to keep an eye out for bears...or dinosaurs...or zombies!!

We went for a walk and pawzed for a moment to take in this breathtaking view:

We went for a short drive up the lake so mom and dad could grab lunch at the Tamarack Brewery.

Mom said they had the best roasted veggie sandwich she has EVER had!

Then we went back to the campsite and put up this umbrella thingy:

Hmmm.... seems a little short! Maybe if you water it, it will grow.

Much better!

It helped keep the inside of the port-a-house cool, so me and dad decided to take a nap.

Actually, dad napped and I kept an eye out for....well, you know what!

Ooooh....supper time!!! This was going to be our last night at Big Arm. Tomorrow we would hit the road for Great Falls.

I will miss this booteeful place!!

Ruffin' It ! Day 3 - Checkin' out the Big Arm!

We left the magnificent Glacier National Park, and headed back toward our camp site.

But first we stopped into Whitefish, MT, where mom and dad got lunch at

The Great Northern Brewing Company.

Look, they named a beer after my road:

Then we had to feed the truck, so we stopped here:

Ah HAH! I KNEW there were dinosaurs out here! I can smell 'em!

(despite these dinosaurs being everywhere in MT, the gas prices sure weren't cheap)

We got back to our beeyouteeful campground, Big Arm.

That's Wild Horse Isand out there. I hear there really are wild horsies there (and I bet dinosaurs, too!)

We got back to our campsite and guess what we saw!!

A dinosaur...IN A TREE!!!!

ZOINKS! That's no dinosaur! That's a ZOMBIE!!!

Not to worry. I mustered up my most terrifying zombie-be-gone look:

That's right, Mr. Zombie. Just stay right up there in that tree!

...and he did! Man, what would mom and dad do without me?!?!

That night, mom was THRILLED that we got a Montana thunder storm, the kind with that great thunder that rumbles on forever.

She didn't think quick enough to get a video, but here's one she found on youtube.

The good stuff starts about :40.

That was the end of Day 3. It was quite the long day.

Ruffin' It ! Day 3 - Glacier National Park

After a hearty breakfast (finally!), I settled into the truck for the ~~nap~~ drive up to Glacier National Park.

We made the long drive around the lake, which was very big and blue. Look how big the sky is! No wonder it's Big Sky Country!

...and for those of you who think Montana still has no speed limits:

Mom didn't do a very good job of getting a picture of the sign, but here we are at the entrance. The lines were surprisingly short.

The nice man gave us some information about the park, including a map, and

.....whh...whh...whhaatt's this!?!

Hey!!! I didn't sign up for any crazy bear encounters! MOM!!!!!!

Oh...that's just if we run across any. Hmmm. I guess that's ok.

The views at Glacier were spectacular.

Mom was right. The sunrise was amazing. This was the view from our trailer window:

Pictures just don't capture the real beauty, colors, crisp air, and birdie sounds.

Wow!

Ok, I admit. There are some great views/smells here. And I found a nice rock to stand on.

But now back to important business.....BREAKFAST!!

Ruffin' It ! Day 2 - afternoon

After we left Thompson Falls, we headed over to Flathead Lake.

The original plan was to stay by Big Fork, but their campground was full. We ended up driving all the way around the lake (several hours) until we found one with a site mom liked.

We went to 3 campgrounds along the way, but they were too out in the open, or too parkinglot-esk. Finally we found one mom LOVED at Big Arm State Park.

She said it was how camping in Montana should be. We found a spot that was away from everyone else.

You could even see the lake from our campsite.

It was another beeyouteeful place.

Mom was excited for sunrise over the lake, which she figured we would be able to see from our campsite. So we settled down for the night in anticipation of the morning sun.

Ruffin' It ! Day 2 - the morning

It was a little chilly in the morning, so I let mom and dad stay bundled under the covers.

Oh....what's this?!?

Surprise. It's not mom...it's ME!!!!

So we got up, looking forward to a nice, peaceful breakfast at the fire, when......

Hold on a minute... what's that awful commotion I hear?

Ugh! Big, noisy construction vehicles right outside the camp!

The camp host told us, "There are 2 seasons in Montana...Winter and Construction."

We were planning on staying 2 nights here, but decided we didn't want to listen to the noise.

But before we left, we decided to take in some of the morning beauty by the river.

We couldn't hear the constuction noise at the river, so it was very nice and calm.

Wait a minute....Is this sand I'm on?!?

Forget calm.....ZOOMIES!!!!!!!!

Whew!!!!!

Ok...back to calm and peaceful.

We saw (I smelled) lots of these big, prehistoric thingies with white tails.

What beeyouteefull scenary!

We headed back to the campground and ran across these strange little trees.

I'm not sure how they got them to grow like that, but they were the perfect size for peeing on!

Despite the noise, the campground area was quite beautiful and the sand was an added bonus for me.

We folded up the port-a-house and headed off for our next adventure spot.

Ruffin' It! Day 1

We just got back from 2 weeks of 'ruffin it' in Montana.

Mom is from MT, so she was very excited to go back.

Me and dad had never been there, so we were excited to be somewhere new.

So, we packed up the port-o-house and headed off to Big Sky Country.

Our first stop was in Thompson Falls, MT:

We got there shortly before sunset, so mom got some quick shots of the river by the campground.

It was starting to get dark and chilly, so dad popped up the port-o-house and created fire. We had dinner outside via camp fire (mom and dad had tuna melt mountain pies, yum).

Then we settled down for the night. There were only a couple other people in the campground, so it was very quiet. What luck we had coming across this beautiful, peaceful campground on our first stop....or so we thought. Stay tuned for day 2 of Ruffin' It!!!!

My Busy Birthday..

Yesterday was my 2nd birthday.

We had a lot going on, so I'm playing catchup today.

Memphis' dad made me this cool feeder, so I don't have to bend down to eat or drink anymore, which is great on my neck.

I even got some special birthday food added to my usual:

Mmmmm! Very tastee!!!!

Then I got my other pressies...

My favorite treats, a new treat dispenser, a loofa dog (that I'll de-squeek in less than 5 minutes), a stuffed tiger, and a laser pointer (from dad, so I don't wear out his work one).

That little tiger was more durable than I expected...and its still in one piece!!

So, that was my 2nd birthday. I got some fun stuffs, got to hang out with furrends and family who love me, and the weather was amazing.

Can it get more perfect than that?!?

It started out like any normal Saturday...

I should have known something was up when I smelled mom baking up some yummies!

...and putting together these treat bags...

...but, we did our usual and headed off to meet Memphis at the dog park.

I could tell it was going to be a warm one, so I started hydrating right away.

We did most of our playing in the shade...cuz we be cool like that!

I noticed a lot of furrends were starting to gather around.

There were old furrends and new furrends, a bag of yummies, treat bags, new tennis balls...

Hmmmm... what's going on here?

Then it hit me....IT's MY BIRTHDAY PAW-TEE!!!!!!!!!

MOOOOMMM!!! When can we have the yummies?!?!?!!!!!

I can smell them up here!!!!

Yeah, it's definitely time for the yummies!!!!!

We hung around and played for 2 1/2 hours. I was exhausted, but very happy!

I did the Dog-A-Thon again this year. It's the Humane Society's Walk for Homeless Pets.

My bestest bud, Memphis, also did it!

I think you can measure the temperature by the length of Memphis' tongue!

Hmm.... about 75 degrees.

This is like AFRICA hot!!!!!....

...Ok, probably not.

But it sure felt warm to us! But, because it was for a good cause, we were willing to walk the 200 miles (ok...maybe 2) through Death Valley (I mean, the Pacific Northwest).

Attack of the Green Veggiesaurs!!!

You might be asking, "Remi, what ~~green~~ marvelous looking ~~green~~ healthy stuff is in your bowl?"

Well, let me tell you ~~(its green!)~~.....

My mom is a veggiesaur. She recently joined something called a 'CSA', where she gets a lot of ~~green~~ organic, farm fresh veggies and fruits every week. So, me and dad have been the 'test subjects' for lots of new recipes with ~~green~~ things we've never eaten before

(like kohlrabi, mustard and collard, and arugula....~~all of which are green~~).

So, mom has been adding ~~green~~ 'secret ingredients' to my food...like fresh parsley and kale chips.

She starts with fresh kale from the CSA.

Seasons the ones for her and makes mine plain (although I like the seasoned ones better!). Then she bakes them for a little bit...just til they're crispy.

Then she sprinkles the fresh parsley and kale chips on my yummy

Honest Kitchen Zeal. ~~(which is also green)~~

Tah Dah!!!

Mom says parsley and kale are 'superfoods' for dogs.

In the meantime, I'm going to dig into my ~~green~~ super healthy food. It's actually super yummy and I always look forward to my meal time!

A New Look

A New Dog Park Adventure!

Mom surprised me this morning and took me to a park I've never been to before: Magnuson Park.

It was a little bit of a drive to get there, but it was a big place.

I'm always a little wary of new places like this. You never know what kind of dogs (or humans) will show up. So I put my game face on (aka: Don't mess with my momma).

After deciding it was a relatively safe place for us, I did a little exploring:

I ran into another Ridgeback. She's 8-years-old and still in good shape.

Can you tell which one is me?

Her humans seemed pretty nice, too!

Lookin' to see if maybe my buddy, Memphis, will show up.

It was a pretty big park and had a nice walking loop.

We met up with Memphis by the beach.

As you can see, HE was thrilled!

Me....not so much!

Water is not high on my list of fun (or even bearable) activities.

Memphis: "Check it out Remi. This is how it's done. You gotta at least get your feet in it."

Remi: " I dunno, man. It smells kinda funky."

Remi: " Ok. Uhhhh......hmmm. Feels kinda....wet! Yuck!

Memphis: "Woooo Hooo!!!!"

Remi: "whoopee (heavy sarcasm). Ok. I'm outta here."

Ok, so it was cool going to a new park. It was big, they had lots of poop bags, drinking water, a nice walking trail, human porta-poop stations, and the humans seemed nice and attentive to their 4-legged friends. But, considering the drive to get there and all the yucky water, I'm only giving it 3 paws (out of 4, of course).

Mom said we might try a different park again next week.

I'm hoping she skips the ones with 'water features.'

We dodged the drippy stuff today! It was a little cloudy this morning, but then it got sunny and nice out. It's quite shocking to go from 60 degrees to 80. For some reason, Harmon loves to sit in the blistering sun:

This weekend, we went on another camping adventure.

We'd actually gone camping here 4 months ago, but we like it so much we went again!

Hmmm.... Did I miss marking any of these trees last time?!?

I'm thinking I got most all these!

I love little kids sooo much, and this little guy was such a swell kid.

We had a great time playing together!

A Sad Day...

Yesterday, my feline brother, Jake, went to the Rainbow Bridge.

He was the oldest of the katz, but was only 8.

Mom noticed that he had been breathing faster and heavier recently, but was otherwise acting normally. She took him to the doctor, who found out he had fluid in his chest. While they were draining the fluid, his heart stopped. They think he had cardiomyopathy, which caused the fluid.

It was all too sudden and unexpected. He was much too young.

I put together some pictures of Jake for mom, who misses him terribly.

He was a smart cat and knew more commands and tricks than me!

I also miss Jake. He was the coolest of the katz. He was bigger than me when I first got to my new home back in September 2009:

He was even tolerant when an outsider was added to the pack:

He was also a goof ball:

But for the time being, he will be basking in the warmth of the sun, waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, playing with his sister, Moo:

My new Favorite Toy, pt II

After discovering this new toy from Kyjen was a great tug toy, I started really having fun with it!!

Ahhh... Mine!....Alll Mine!!!!

After a couple weeks of playing with it, the only damage is I tore the tag off (actually within the first few minutes....hey! It's what I do!)

And tore some of the stitching out.

So....(if I had thumbs), I'd give it 2 thumbs up for durability and fun-ness!!!
